This is not directly financial, but in the WSJ today (Tuesday September 1, 2009):
"...fire officials [in California] said that so far, the summer fire season has been a routine one for California..." and of the most recent activity: "...this is a pretty significant fire, but not an unheard-of fire..." - said a spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service.
With the media attention on the fires in California, as always, it is important to keep perspective. Yes, the loss of lives and homes is terrible but the impression from the media is that this has never happened before. It has.
The same is true about recessions, unemployment, stock market increases of over 45% from March 9th's low to today's levels - less than 6 months, and the corrections of 10% or more to the down-side that seem to occur afterwards.
Financial planning should be about long-term strategy, perspective and not day-to-day events.

Why pay annual fees when there may be little added value? For additional information, first read the "An Introduction" label at the left. Then move on to others.
